With several countries ready to go to war with robotic armies, Derrida, the son of a robotics genius has discovered a flaw in the programming which will turn the robots into indiscriminate killing machines!
What did you watch and why? This was one of the Fall 2018 shows that I kind of stumbled upon. It’s set in the future with robots and space-age looking cities. It had a more mysterious vibe to it which was kind of cool. Anyhow, there never really seems to be enough science fiction anime, so I leapt in.
What’s it about? All right, you may want to make notes as we go. It involves time travel so this could get messy. Derrida is a scientist at a large robotics company. Together with his work colleague he has discovered a problem with the programming for a series of military robots, but when they try to confront the bosses it all goes horribly wrong.
What’s happened since last time? Derrida continues to search for Mage, hoping to find some answers to his recent time ride! He’s unsure of how he managed it, but he definitely altered the timeline.
Following a lead, they go to an abandoned museum, prompting some forgotten memories and causing Derrida to ride time once more. He confides in the other as he continues to experiment with this new found ability, but every time he tries to change something significant he is kicked back to now.
Unluckily for Derrida, Donna isn’t the only one hunting him now. Bounty Hunters and government officials are after the patch to the faulty androids.
Have your feelings changed? Not really. I enjoyed the concepts and the science fiction elements from the first four episodes but felt like the characters were a little flat. Nothing has changed, although the time travel stuff is getting interesting.
Favourite character so far? There still isn’t any one character jumping out at me. Donna started talking to herself and chastizing Derrida for his sins. Not sure she’s going to end up helping them anymore as she seems to be completely insane. Vidaux is probably the coolest character, but it’s still the plot that is the most interesting element.
Who do you want to see more of? Mage still hasn’t really shown up and she seems to have a lot of answers, which is something we need. The final third of the series should start to provide more answers. They don’t have to give us anything, but leaving everything hanging and hoping for a second season is not a good look.
Are you going to continue watching? Time travel! Of course, I’m going to keep watching, unless I already did… The timeline is starting to get distorted with all of Derrida’s experiments. It’s only small changes, but I get the feeling they’re going to become bigger and more impactful.
What’s it about? The son of a robotics genius discovers a flaw in the programming just as an army of robots is about to be activated. When his father is killed, Derrida flees and accidentally cryogenically freezes himself for ten years. He wakes to the destruction caused by the robot army.
What are your first impressions? There are a lot of really cool elements going on here. You have the evil corporation putting profit above all else. There is an out of control robot army, laying waste to the world. Then we meet Vidaux who is a Demolition Man. Seriously, Terminators versus Demolition Man!
Favourite character so far? So far, no one has really stood out. Vidaux is cool, but there needs to be more to him. Mage has the most potential to be interesting, with the possible time travel stuff, but that’s not got there yet. Other than that there is Donna, a crazy contract killer hired to get rid of Derrida, and she is cool.
Who do you want to see more of? There is bound to be more Mage. I think time travel is going to be a big part of this. So, we definitely need to see more of her. I also feel like Donna will end up on Derrida’s side, so that’s going to be interesting to see… if it happens.
Are you going to continue watching? Yes, there are too many awesome science fiction elements for me to put this down, even if the characters are a little flat at this point. I hope they develop more, but if not, I’m all in on this one for the plot anyhow. I love a good time travel story.
What did you watch and why? I’m a sucker for Norse mythology so the title grabbed my attention, as long as it is! Then I saw the image and there was no turning back.
One line pitch! Teenage time traveller rules ancient lands with the help of smartphone…
What’s it really about? That actually pretty much sums it up. Thanks to his smartphone and access to all of the internet, Yuuto Suoh now controls the Wolf Clan and leads their army against invaders. He’s also surrounded by a group of magic-wielding warrior maidens… tough break!
Setsuna wakes on a beach with no memory or clothes. Before he can react, a local girl, Karen discovers him and alerts the authorities. With no identity or any reason to hold him, they give him some clothes and let him go, although the island elders want him off the island.
Believing he has travelled through time, Setsuna returns to the beach and falls asleep. He is woken by a familiar song and remembers that he must save a girl, and he believes that girl is Rinne. Curious about the local legends attached to their names, Rinne hires Setsuna as a house cleaner.
The next day he meets Sara, a local holy girl who believes a time traveller will appear and that she is destined to kill him. What’s more, there is a strange illness affecting the population, making exposure to the sun potentially life-threatening. Continue reading “Island – Season One”
