Saturday Sketches: Week 3

What did you draw this week? Back in week 1, I also received a request from Winter, suggesting either Eureka from Eureka Seven or Arin from Trinity Seven. Now, I’ve not seen either of those series, sorry Winter, so I jumped onto Google images and checked them out.

This is again where I shall apologise to Winter, as I was looking through the images of Arin from Trinity Seven I kept noticing this redhead in the background. Something compelled me to further my search and long story short, I drew Lilith from Trinity Seven instead.

There is a good reason for this… well, just look at her. Other than the obvious, it seems like a good picture to prep me for a little project I’ve been planning for a while. If you read my Make It Anime post, you may know what I’m talking about. Anyhow, I’m going to start work on character sketches for a gender-flipped version of Predator. If they look good, maybe I’ll even turn them into a light novel!

Anyhow, here’s Lilith!

Once more, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, but this one wasn’t as straight forward as Albedo. When I did my first outline, I accidentally made the torso far too long and it looked stretched. I was seconds away from starting again when I remembered to put my eraser to good use.

Want to see me draw someone or something (I’m prepared to draw mecha or monsters too) then put in the comments and I’ll see what I can do.

Other posts in the series.

Saturday Sketches: Week 2

What did you draw this week? I was lucky enough to get some requests last week, so just to prove that I am drawing them and willing to do requests, here is the first of them. Yomu gave me a selection of characters from Overlord, all with obvious waifu potential.

I also thought I would try something new. As in, I bought a new pencil, one of the mechanical pencils with a fine point. This way I can focus a little more on the line work. I’m not too worried about shading just yet, especially as my ultimate goal will be to scan the images and do all of the shading/colouring digitally.

Anyhow, here it is. I selected Albedo from the list Yomu gave me because she has some of the best facial expressions. Even for animated characters, she takes things to a whole other level.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Hopefully, just from looking at it you’ll be able to tell that it’s Albedo. I also enjoyed working with the new pencil, it came out very clean and no mountains of sharpenings either.

Saturday Sketches: Week 1

Is this category new? Yes, I’m glad that you noticed. I’m going to try and get my drawing skills back up to full speed and wanted to do something that didn’t take all my focus away from writing. So, I’m going to do a sketch of a character from a manga or anime, although eventually, I do intend to create some original characters.

This week’s sketch comes from Ikki Tousen, a manga about teenagers with the spirits of ancient warriors trapped within ancient jewels that grant them incredible powers. Basically, it’s just a big inter-school turf war with clothing shredding battles.

The lead character, Hakufu Sonsaku seems to be a laid back ditz, but when you piss her off, you had better hope your in a different country at the time.

I’m hoping to see an increase in my skills and style as the weeks go on and am willing to give most characters a go. So, if there’s anyone you’d want to see me draw, let me know in the comments.

Author Journey December 2018

Any big announcements? Not really. I had a very nice Christmas at home with the family. We cooked a turkey and all the trimming, and it turned out to be very nice. I got a new laptop after struggling with my last one for eight years. The new one is silent by comparison and a million times faster, so that should aid my productivity no end.

How’s the writing going? At the moment it’s not really going at all. I’m still working on a cat-girl short for Otaku Stories volume seven. The first draft is done, now I just have to edit it and we can release that. I’ve decided that I am going to pause Valiant Lineage so that I can get the edits done on a collaborative trilogy that I’ve been working on for over a year now. It’s going to be awesome. Here’s a sneak peek at the first cover.

H.o.t.D.D. – Dead End

What’s going on now? Well, this is it. My Highschool of the Dead December project, much like the month of December, has run its course. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, but it doesn’t have to, right? Below you’ll find all of the links to each and every post. Feel free to check out the ones you missed or reread them the next time you watch/read Highschool of the Dead.

Introduction – This gives an overview of why I decided to do Highschool of the Dead December.

The Anime – Each episode reviewed and then a season review, plus the OVA, Drifters of the Dead.

The Manga – All seven volumes of the manga reviewed, with pictures from the full-colour editions, plus Act 30, the start of volume eight and the final act released.

The Characters

So, what now? Well, it’s been a pretty busy month, especially since I completed the 30 Day Anime Challenge in November and I’ve been keeping up to date with the Fall 2018 anime schedule. I don’t have anything planned for January, so it will be nice to slow down a fraction. Not to mention, I’ve got a ton of work to do on a post-apocalyptic trilogy I’ve been working on for too long already.

One last thing, I promised I would show you just how awesome the full-colour edition of the manga is compared to the regular black and white volumes. You might want to sit down for this…

Anyhow, I guess this is it. Thanks for stopping by and supporting me as I compiled what is basically my love letter to Highschool of the Dead. Sure, it took me 31 days and roughly 22,000 words to do, but now we have reached the Dead End!

If you have any questions about Highschool of the Dead, let’s have them. I am always happy to talk HotD and if I don’t know, I’m going to want to find out. Thanks again and have a safe and happy New Year.
