Do you skip the OP or turn it up to eleven? I pick and choose, but I never skip these because they are my favourite anime OPs.
What is this about? So, I’ve still not quite filled up the Seven Colours in his Hair list. I know it should be easy, but I want to make sure I pick the right guys. Anyhow, it gave me a chance to put together another list. When I’m not watching anime, I often find myself listening to my favourite OPs. I have a playlist with a load of them.
Occasionally, I’ve even found myself humming the tunes while singing in Japanese in my head… and I don’t even speak Japanese, although it has been a lifelong goal of mine, but that’s for another day. So, it’s time to turn the volume up and get ready for this spectacular selection of anime OPs.
This is my top seven, but I’ve put them in
Attack on Titan
This song has so much energy and the animation gives me chills. I’ve nominated this as my favourite OP in the 30 Day Anime Challenge where I went into more detail of why I love it. This is still one of my all time favourite series.
Song: Guren no Yumiya / Artist: Linked Horizon
Cowboy Bebop
Another classic series and another amazing OP. This is probably no surprise as the music in Cowboy Bebop is just one of the elements that really
Song: Tank! / Artist: Seatbelts
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
Admittedly not one of my favourite series, but this opening song is dynamite. I love the way
Song: Brave Shine / Artist: Aimer
Highschool of the Dead
This one probably isn’t surprising anyone. I absolutely sing this one in my head all the time. The up-tempo music and stunning visuals make this unforgettable. A lot of the sequences in the OP never actually happen in the anime, which is cool. I still can’t believe I didn’t do an entire post dedicated to this in my Highschool of the Dead December Project.
Song: Highschool of the Dead / Artist:
One Piece
There have been so many different OPs in One Piece and every now and then one catches my attention. This is currently my favourite one, but it’ll probably change again in the near future. I only have four hundred and eighty episodes to catch up on…
Song: Brand New World / Artist: D-51
Sword Art Online
It probably helped that I watched so many episodes back to back as I tried to watch all of it before Netflix pulled it, after giving my forty-eight hours notice. Again, I love the tempo and the exciting images that SAO gives us. It also shows glimpses of the harsh reality of the situation the gamers find themselves in. I will have to rewatch this some time soon.
Song: Crossing Fields / Artist: AmaLee
Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid
This one is probably coming out of nowhere. Did anyone see this coming. I certainly didn’t. This series was crazy, but fun and I loved the opening every time I saw it. It has great energy and lots of cool fights. Luckily, it should leave you with no doubts what you’re getting into too.
Song: Overdrive / Artist: Hitomi Harada
Anything to add? I have so many more OPs and EDs on my playlists that I’m sure I’ll be doing more posts like this. Not to mention the complete soundtracks that I listen too while writing. Some of the action music is great for writing fight scenes. I’m always interested in adding to my playlist, what are you favourites?
AoT always has some amazing OPs! Brave Shine from Fate and Crossing Field from SAO are also some of my personal favorites too. Really awesome choices. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, I could have easily done a top twenty. It was harder to narrow it down to just these.
Oh I feel ya! I did a similar blog on my favorite OPs as well. There’s so many good songs out there! Keep it up 😎!
