The Killing Stone is broken, but Phryne will get another and there’s nothing Bell can do to stop her… or is there? Bell is determined to be the hero that Haruhime needs and not another storybook hero!
What did you watch?
Did I mention that I love this series? Well, this is episode 10 of Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II. In the last episode, Bell had interrupted the ceremony to use the Killing Stone and left it shattered, but Bell and Haruhime are still on top of the tower surrounded by Ishtar’s Amazon warriors. Let’s see them get out of this one… I can’t wait! Spoilers are coming.
Bell has just destroyed the Killing Stone and Phryne is not too happy about it. She tells Bell it won’t save Haruhime. They will just get another and there’s nothing he can do about it. Well, Bell isn’t going to sit back and let them. He steps in front Phryne, telling her that she can’t take Haruhime. Haruhime begs Bell to run and leave her behind, but Bell refuses. She needs a hero and he doesn’t care if she’s a prostitute, he will be that hero. Phryne attacks, knocking Bell back and then demands that Haruhime use her magic to level her up.
Of course, Haruhime uses her magic, but it’s Bell that gets levelled up and not Phryne. Bell attacks and eventually gets the better of her, knocking her through the floor and sending her crashing down to the lower levels. While this has been going on, Freya Familia has launched a full-scale assault, setting fire to Ishtar’s property. Bell is about to take Haruhime when Aisha steps in a warns Bell that he won’t be able to protect her forever. There will be others that come for her as soon as they learn of her power.
What did you think?
So, we’ve still not seen much of the dungeon, but I’m fine with that if we get episodes like this one. I loved seeing Bell go up against some incredibly strong opponents. It’s great to see his resolve tested. There were two great fights, although the second was easily the best. On top of that, we have the attack from Freya Familia and a confrontation between Goddesses. Not to mention, Hermes shows up which is always fun. This episode had everything but the dungeon!
What was your favourite moment?
Ever since this arc started, there’s been something about Aisha that caught my eye. She seemed to be reluctant in following Ishtar. A couple of episodes ago, we learnt why and how Phryne and Ishtar had tortured her and then charmed her into their submission. I still believe that everything she did was to see Ishtar toppled and Haruhime saved. That brings us to the fight between Aisha and Bell. It wasn’t enough for Aisha to see Bell defeat Phryne, she needed to make sure that he would defend her against any opponent. It felt more like a warning and a trial to see if Bell was truly up to the task. The fight was great on its own, but the extra knowledge behind why and Aisha’s reaction to losing made it that much more satisfying.
What was your least favourite moment?
It’s no secret that I didn’t like Phryne. She absolutely terrified my, but when she tried to seduce Ottar I absolutely cringed. At that moment, she reminded me Cartman from South Park and for anyone trying to seduce anyone, boy or girl, being compared to Cartman has got to be the worst possible thing. I’m still not entirely sure why they choose to make Phryne into such an odd-looking character. Her role would have been far more effective had she looked more like the other Amazons. That would have made it far less obvious that she was the one to fear.
Who was your favourite character?
And Aisha is back. I loved her in this episode and I think a lot of what she did will be misinterpreted as her following Ishtar’s commands and actively going against Bell, when I believe that she was trying to go against Ishtar without directly doing so and her fight with Bell was to make sure that he could protect her. I don’t know what’s next for Aisha, but I hope she makes a comeback, maybe with her own spinoff series. I think she may even be my favourite character of the season so far.
Who was your least favourite character?
I kind of felt sorry for Ishtar when Freya bitch-slapped off the tower and sent her packing back to the heavens, but only a little. The troubling thing here is that Freya hasn’t saved Bell from Ishtar’s plan. If anything it’s just progressed Freya’s plan to capture Bell herself. Neither of these two goddesses is what you would consider nice. Freya is just a lot tougher than Ishtar which is probably why she was willing to sacrifice Haruhime to make her Familia stronger.
Would you like some more?
Without a doubt. I love this series and I still need to find a way to watch the spinoff series Sword of Orario and the movie. Plus I need to read the light novels and catch up with the manga. Just give me more. I am a little annoyed, however, that this season only has twelve episodes compared to last season that had thirteen. It would also be nice to see Bell go back into the dungeon and start doing that again.
