Marlya and Free manage to recover the Black Fairy Tome but are yet to validate its authenticity. Meanwhile, Sweetie sends in the cleaners!
What did you watch?
So, admittedly watching the latest episode of Game of Thrones kept me from getting to this last night. It’s probably not fair to watch this after something so utterly epic, but here we are. This also is the end of week four of the Spring 2019 scheduled. We already know that I’m enjoying Fruits Basket and loving Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, so how does Fairy Gone fare?
Having left us on a cliffhanger last week, we pick up exactly where we left off. Bitter Sweet and Free were in a standoff to grab the Black Fairy Tome, Marlya was on the rooftops with her rifle aimed at Bitter. When Bitter unleashed her fairy, Mayla jumped down and her fairy joined the fight. Within seconds, it was all over and Bitter disappeared into the night, leaving Free to cradle an exhausted Maryla.
Marlya recovered at the private fairy researchers house, but Bitter wasn’t done yet. She was busy arranging for a clean-up crew to go in and finish what she couldn’t. When Marlya finally awoke, she asked the researchers if they knew Veronica, sure that that was how they got a hold of the Black Fairy Tome in the first place, but they denied it. Now, they just need to return it to the Ministry of Fairies.
What did you think?
I’m actually quite annoyed. All of the good work they did in the last episode to finally give us a hint of the main plot seems to have dissolved into nothing. They introduced Bitter Sweet and managed to make her kind of interesting, but rather than stick with her in this episode, they’ve brought in yet another couple of characters that I’m dubbing Team Rocket of the Fairy Gone world. I’m really starting to worry about this series and how I’m going to get through another twenty episodes.
What was your favourite moment?
The best part was right at then of the episode when Veronica leapt through a giant stained glass window to get between Marlya and James… er I mean Jonathan, the guy with the daggers and crazy eyes. The rest of the episode wasn’t up to much sadly.
What was your least favourite moment?
I had to laugh when Free and Marlya managed to follow Team Rocket even though they left no trail through a series of cobbled streets and into an abandoned church. They could have turned off anywhere, but no this was the place. Even funnier, was when Free ran his finger over a dusty stone and looked up at the stained glass windows and said, this must be the ruins of an old church. Do you think so, Free, do you? Also, what was the point of the random castle inspection? Feel like we need some context to all the random segments.
Who was your favourite character?
Literally, no one stood out in this episode. Even Free didn’t seem to do much other than sleep at Marlya’s bedside and sniff his kebabs. Bitter’s role was pretty much over by the opening credits. Marlya was Marlya, still fairly uninteresting. Even the flashbacks fail to add any sort of life to the characters.
Who was your least favourite character?
That’ll be Team Rocket. They were just so over the top, how could they not be there to steal the Black Fairy Tome? Wake up, Free. I really struggle to get past all of the dumb things that keep happening. How did they steal the Black Fairy Tome? Did Free just put his suitcase on the floor as they ate on the patio of a restaurant? Sorry, I’m just really disappointed with this episode.
Would you like some more?
I want to believe that this could become a good series, but it’s making it really hard for me. There just seems to be too many moving parts and characters with no real development. We don’t even have a definitive story to hang on for. What is the purpose of all this? I am going to keep watching and I do hope that it starts to pick up, but I’m not sure how many more chances I can give it.
