What did you watch?

This is episode 25 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, which makes next week’s episode the final one of the season. So, I’m hoping that this episode will get things going so that we can end with a big finish… please! We might as well dive straight in and don’t forget, there will be spoilers after this image.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Episode 25 Tanjiro Happy

What happened?

Tanjiro approached the three girls that help at Butterfly Mansion and asked them to beat him with carpet beaters if he stops doing the Total Concentration breathing while asleep. They agree, in fact, they seem kind of delighted and when the time comes they appear to be enjoying it. Tanjiro thanks them and returns to sleep, but not for long. The next morning training continues and Tanjiro manages to explode a gourd with his breath. He progressing but still can’t catch up with Kanao.

Zenitsu and Inosuke decide to resume training thanks to Zenitsu’s sparrow that basically called them a couple of layabouts. Then, when they find out what they need to do, they were ready to go back to bed until Lady Shinobu appealed to their egos. With all three training once more, the place seemed more alive than ever. Shinobu told Kanao that she should join them as they are the same level which prompted a flashback to Kanao’s childhood.

What did you think?

Wasn’t last week’s episode the training montage? Well, I suppose it wasn’t quite done so we got another this week. It was nice to see Tanjiro making progress and asking the girls for help. Then, when he finally caught Kanao in the game of tag and defeated her at cups, he was ready to get back to his missions, following a final examination from Shinobu. Kanao’s backstory is a particularly sad one and I’d talk more about that in a moment. It was nice to see Zenitsu and Inosuke get back to training, although the arrival of the blacksmiths didn’t exactly help with the tomfoolery of this episode.

What was your favourite moment?

After Tanjiro slept the whole night while continuing to perform the Total Concentration Constant, he was like a different person and managed to defeat Kanao, marking to completion of his training. It’s great to see the progress and once again, it feels deserved. I think this series has handled the training montages quite well and minus the occasional goofy moment in the later sessions, they’ve felt effective. Tanjiro is not a Hashira yet, but he’s moving in the right direction.

What was your least favourite moment?

Kanao had a crap childhood. She lived in poverty and was beaten and starved on a regular basis. It happened so often that her body shut down all feelings, allowing her to keep from going crazy. So, when her parents sold her, she didn’t care. Then with her new master, they bumped into Shinobu and her older sister who enquired about the girl. When the man gave some unsatisfactory answers, Shinobu threw some money at him and they grabbed Kanao and ran. Even after being saved, it appeared that Kanao was still broken. She was unable to make even a simple decision herself. This is terribly sad and makes the ‘tragic’ backstory Zenitsu hit us with even more ridiculous.

Who was your favourite character?

It has to be Tanjiro. He completed his training, his jaw has healed, and he has a new sword, although the last one almost killed him. Either way, it’s time to get back to hunting demons and I feel like it’s long overdue. That’s more than enough horsing around. Demon Slayer is at it’s best when it’s either giving us something serious to contemplate or when we’re dealing with heart-pounding action and insurmountable odds.

Who was your least favourite character?

I was torn between several of the characters this week. The blacksmiths were definitely annoying, but they left pretty quickly. Zenitsu and Inosuke had a lot of over-the-top reactions to pretty much everything. But, this week, I’m going to go against the grain and mention Shinobu because she basically gave Rengoku to kiss of death. It looked pretty clear last week that Rengoku was not going to last long, so did we really need for Tanjiro and Shinobu to put the final nail in his coffin. The difference between Flame Breathing and Fire Breathing was interesting, but he doesn’t stand a chance no that Tanjiro wants to talk to him about it.

Would you like some more?

There is one more episode before the end of season one. I’d imagine we’re all but guaranteed a second season, especially after the series blew up on Twitter after episode 19. I am a little disappointed that we’re going to be heading into the start of another arc as there is obviously not enough time to complete it. The demon on the train does look absolutely terrifying so I can’t wait to see what Tanjiro is up against now, although I could be waiting a while… I’d guess at season two starting next year, but I’ve not heard anything.

  1. This series cannot not deliver a second season! I hope we hear something very soon, because Demon Slayer is already too great to not continue. Also, chances are very high that episode 26 ends on a cliffhanger, which I don’t know how to feel about. Either ways I am so ready for some action.

    • Agreed. I’m working on the assumption that we’re guaranteed a second season and I also see a cliffhanger coming. That or something fairly dark and tragic. Either way, I’m really looking forward to it.
