The colossal spaceship Sidonia drifts through space housing what might be the last remnants of humanity. Generations have existed entirely within Sidonia, enhanced by genetic manipulations that enable them to photosynthesis and live longer.
Nagate lives deep within the bowels of Sidonia. He spends his days training in a simulator, mastering the skills to pilot a Garde, a large mechanised weapon used to defend Sidonia. His food supplies have run dry and now he must leave his safe haven or starve.

With her remote community face the real threat of starvation, Zuru heads out into the infinite city in search of food. Endless tunnels and passageways stretch out in every direction, deserted and desolate. Safeguards monitor the surroundings, checking for threats. The city is willing and able to defend itself.
Set in the distant future, the infinite city grows and adapts, maintained by automated machines and processes. The Net Terminal Gene once enabled humanity to control the city and live a carefree existence, but that has long been lost.
Zuru’s tiny community exists within a blind spot of the Safeguard, but that can’t last forever. Dwindling food supplies and a desire to create a better life drive them to take drastic measures, but the Safeguard is ready and waiting. A mysterious wanderer rescues Zuru and offers hope for the future.

Simon is a digger. He lives in a small subterranean community, making tunnels and uncovering artefacts buried within the ground. Viewed as a bit of an odd bod, he aligns himself with the charismatic delinquent, Kamina who has dreams of going up to the surface.
Out of the blue, a giant mecha falls through the cavern ceiling and starts attacking the humans. A beautiful girl armed with a massive gun follows and fights back. Kamina rushes to help, but can’t do much with his katana against such a large mecha.
Things are looking bad until Simon leads them up one of his tunnels and shows them a small mecha he discovered. They battle their way to the surface, a desolate barren wasteland.
