In a small town with a sinister secret, mysterious monsters feed on the humans, and a schoolgirl with a sword may be their only hope of survival.
What did you watch and why? This was the second series from my A to Z Anime Challenge. I remember watching a short movie back in the days of VHS called Blood: The Last Vampire, which was very cool. So, when I saw the cover art for this series, I assumed it must be connected and decided to watch it. It was connected.
What’s it about? Saya is your average schoolgirl. Well, not quite. She lives at a shrine with her father, a stoic and serious man. When she’s not doing her chores around the shrine or going to school, she fights demonic creatures called Elder Bairns who feast on human flesh.
The arrival of another adult at the orphanage changes things for the children. Will they be able to adjust their plans in time to escape?
What did you watch? I managed to watch episode three of the Promised Neverland four minutes after it aired. No more shutting down the internet and hiding from spoilers for me. Don’t worry, I’ll go over what happened shortly. I’m just filling up the preview with spoiler free waffle.
All right, that should do it. If you’re reading beyond here, I am going to assume that you’ve seen the first three episodes or are one of those people that likes spoilers…
What happened? Sister Krone joins the staff at the orphanage and immediately sets about getting to know the children. Mother tells her in no uncertain terms that she is just a guard to watch the children. She also confides in her that two of the children know about the harvest.
Itsuki and Mahiru are transported to a strange new world where they each have a part to play in its survival. In order to save Granvania and return to their own world, they will need to defeat the Impurities.
What did you watch and why? Honestly, I’m still not sure. Just as watching the seasonal anime opens up wonderful new shows and experiences, it also produces shows like this one. I thought it would be funny, maybe a little bit lewd, but it failed on both accounts pretty spectacularly.
What’s it about? So, Itsuki and Mahiru are pulled through a magic gate to another world. There they learn that in order the save Granvania from the Impurities, Itsuki will need to produce twelve Star Children with the twelve Star Maidens, and Mahiru, his cousin, is one of them…
With several countries ready to go to war with robotic armies, Derrida, the son of a robotics genius has discovered a flaw in the programming which will turn the robots into indiscriminate killing machines!
What did you watch and why? This was one of the Fall 2018 shows that I kind of stumbled upon. It’s set in the future with robots and space-age looking cities. It had a more mysterious vibe to it which was kind of cool. Anyhow, there never really seems to be enough science fiction anime, so I leapt in.
What’s it about? All right, you may want to make notes as we go. It involves time travel so this could get messy. Derrida is a scientist at a large robotics company. Together with his work colleague he has discovered a problem with the programming for a series of military robots, but when they try to confront the bosses it all goes horribly wrong.
Rimuru continues to unite the monsters of the forest, building on the success of the goblin village, but a sinister threat approaches, one that will test the limits of his powers.
What’s happened since last time?
It picks up from the last round with Rimuru trying out a number of different human forms based on Shizu. He settles on the original form he’d selected and decides to try out his taste-buds. The hobgoblins prepare a feast to celebrate Rimuru eating with them for the first time.
While hunting for the feast the hobgoblins are attacked by a small group of ogres, resembling samurai warriors. Rimuru rushes to help and ends up as the focus of their attacks. He makes quick work of them, showing off some impressive new skills, before convincing them to stop their attack.
Rimuru invites them back to his village where he discovers that the ogres were attacked by a massive army of orcs and that they are the only survivors. They agree to join Rimuru to get vengeance for their fallen kinsmen. A dryad approaches Rimuru asking him to slay the orc-lord and save the forest.
