Author Journey (October 2019)

Lynn Sheridan Author Journey October 2019

Got any big announcements?

I’ve been back at the day job for over a month now and I’ve almost got IT to restore all of my access… I am enjoying the time to myself and not having to constantly worry if the kids have climbed onto the dining room table or worse, but it’s definitely limiting my anime viewing. However, that is something that I had been planning for a while because I’m sitting on several stories that really need my attention. It’s too bad I can’t just come up with the ideas and let the books write themselves.

The big news with my site is that I am still working through some updates to the older posts and I’m happy with how that’s going. Ever since I changed to the new layout, I’ve been making some small changes to make the older posts work. Last month, I published my five-hundredth post… so, as you may imagine, it’s a pretty large project, but it’ll be worth it in the end.

How’s the writing going?

The focus of the writing at the moment is the editing of the Black Death trilogy. I recently finished the edits for my part of book one and was surprised by how dark and exciting it was. I know, I wrote it, but it had been a while since I last went through it and was genuinely shocked and surprised by some of the chapters. It’s going to be interesting to see how readers respond as it has got some very dark and serious elements, but then it is post-apocalyptic after all.

On top of that, I posted a short story for Halloween. It’s not exactly a scary story, but it was one that I really enjoyed writing. It was originally published as part of the Otaku Stories which are now no longer available, so I thought I would share it here. Samurai School for Girls was inspired by watching Project A-ko and is a mash-up of tropes from the anime universe. It’s just over three-thousand words making it a fairly quick read.

Have you done anything interesting?

The most interesting thing has been getting back into writing fiction. While I was home with the kids, finding time was difficult and as a result, I decided to focus on posting on here and developing my site. It was one-thousand percent worth doing and I’m glad that I was able to give it that much attention. Now, I need to split my time and get my writing career back on track. It seems like a lifetime ago since I published anything and I feel like I’ll be starting back at the beginning, which is fine because I’m not coming in blind.

What have you been watching?

So, with Dr. Stone and Fire Force being the only shows I was covering that continued into this season, I decided to add one more. That was, of course, the fourth season of My Hero Academia. I will be watching other shows and will write up a season review once they’re done, but I’m limiting my episode reviews as they seemed to take over last season… The other shows I’m watching include OreSuki, High School Prodigies, Cautious Hero, and Assassin’s Pride. I dropped Azur Lane after three episodes as I was finding it really boring.

I’ve also started catching up on my Anime A to Z Challenge… or catching up on the reviews anyhow. I recently finished watching my series for the letter X, but only recently posted reviews for L – Lord Marksman and Vanadis and M – My First Girlfriend is a Gal. The others will follow in due time, but my goal is to get through them all before the end of the year.

Do you have any plans for next month?

I have so many plans, but my main focus for the next month is to finish all of the edits for Black Death. Our goal is to get them out early next year, so it’s still achievable. After one of the authors pulled out of the project, it looked bleak, but that gave us the chance to get things moving again, especially as we had been waiting a long time for them to catch up. We had both completed the first drafts of books one to three over a year ago!

I also have some pretty wild plans for next year that I have started work on… I know, I know, but I can’t help it. Some of them are focused on this site and include some massive projects that will take over. I’m pretty excited about these and not just because of the scale. The other part of it will be getting my dark fantasy series going again and I have the plans drawn up and ready to roll. I just need to write them.

Do you have any recommendations for anime, manga, or anything really? Do you have an idea for a discussion post for here or Ecchi Hunter? If you want to talk about it, I’m sure we can fit you in. Thanks again for reading.
